Bernice Demko, 95, of Belle Meade, formerly of Perth Amboy, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Somerville.
Born in Allendale, Bernice was raised in Mahwah and lived in Carteret for many years before settling in Perth Amboy in the early 1950s. An avid New York Mets fan, she enjoyed baking, reading and crafting, especially her award winning dolls, which she proudly entered and displayed in many Monmouth County Fairs over the years. Bernice was very loving and caring and she opened her house to anyone who needed help. She donated to many charities, but one of her favorites was for the Dakota Indian Children.
Predeceased by her husband Mike in 2002, a daughter Dorothy Demko, a sister Julia Mary Montozzi, a daughter-in-law Jane Demko and a son-in-law Thomas Wierzbinski, she is survived by her children Bernice Fiorentini and husband Richard, Michaeline Demko and partner Kenneth Stewart, Christine Zabawa and partner Frank Culver, Francine Wierzbinski, Michael Demko and Angela Teodrczy and husband Robert; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday, December 11th from Zylka Funeral Home 513 State Street, Perth Amboy, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, in the Hopelawn section of Woodbridge Township. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 10th from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the Funeral Home, where a Panachida service will be held at 6:00 PM.
