Michael J. Mizerak, Sr., 88, of Perth Amboy passed away on Saturday, December 15th at his home.
Born and raised in Perth Amboy, Mike was a lifelong resident of the town. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Panama. He was a life member of the Perth Amboy Volunteer Fire Department Engine Company 3 where he continued to serve as a member of the Fire Police. He spent 34 years working for both General Cable and Union Carbide, both of Perth Amboy before becoming a maintenance foreman for the City of Perth Amboy Police Department's Traffic Division, where he was responsible for the installation of signs and road painting. Mike was an avid fisherman and enjoyed crabbing. He loved growing summer vegetables in his garden and spending time just relaxing on the Perth Amboy waterfront. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by his wife Josephine in 2003 and his brother, Joseph Mizerak, he is survived by his children, Michael Jr. and his wife Kathleen, of Sparta, NC, Mary-Jo Jacobi and her husband Robert, of East Windsor, Mark and his wife Susan, of Jackson and Christine Yuen and her husband Peter, of Holmdel; eleven grandchildren, and; eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday, December 22nd from Zylka Funeral Home, 513 State Street, Perth Amboy, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM from Holy Rosary Church, Perth Amboy. Cremation will be private The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
